This presentation introduces two original concepts, Causive parenting and Resistive parenting, to describe parenting patterns that either perpetuate or interrupt the intergenerational transmission of trauma. Causive parenting refers to unhealthy patterns that may reproduce experiences of abuse, violence, and invalidation, while Resistive parenting describes patterns that help break this cycle. Drawing on existing research on childhood adversity, parenting, and intergenerational trauma, the presentation explores these concepts and discusses their potential relevance to mental health research and trauma informed interventions.
